Surf, Souks & Sunshine: Our Dream Family Holiday in Taghazout, Morocco

We’ve just returned from the most incredible trip to Taghazout, Morocco — and if you’re considering a family-friendly escape that blends adventure, relaxation, and luxury, this is your sign.

Our base for the week was the Radisson Blu Taghazout Bay, and honestly, I can’t shout about it enough. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and exceptional service — the kind that makes you feel like more than just a guest, like we were being looked after by friends who just happen to work in luxury hospitality. We stayed in one of their one bedroom bungalow suites, which meant that Reggie had his own double sofa bed in a separate room. Our accommodation was spacious, stylish, it had a huge wraparound terrace with a hammock and incredible views! They have different accomodation options at various price points so theres something for everyone.

But what truly stood out? The staff. Every single person we encountered went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable — from front desk to poolside, from the surf team to the spa. I have heard so many negative comments about Moroccans being aggressive and making you feel uncomfortable, and I'm sure this can be the case in some cities within Morocco , as it is in every country. However I can hand on heart say that the people in Taghazout were the nicest human beings I've met so far!

Hotel Highlights You’ll Love

Private beach access through their stunning beach bar, perfect for barefoot walks at sunset or an early bird stroll with the kids.

• A surf academy that’s second to none (more on that shortly!)

• A stunning pool area with plenty of different seating and loungers, a popcorn and crepe stand for easy indulgence, and a view that never gets old. The restaurants are also poolside which means the children can jump between pool and food throughout the day.

• A modern gym, relaxing spa, and a kids club with plenty to keep little ones entertained.

Delicious food at every turn — from generous breakfasts to traditional dinner options and on the Friday evening they laid out an incredible buffet, full of delights!

Catching Waves with the Radisson Blu Surf Academy

One of the absolute highlights of our trip was surfing — something neither of us had done before. Whether you’re just dipping your toes in or looking to level up, the Radisson Blu Taghazout Bay Surf Academy is perfect for the whole family. Our instructor, Ahmed, was nothing short of brilliant, especially with Reggie. Patient, encouraging, and full of energy, he turned what could have been a daunting first-time experience into something fun, safe and totally confidence boosting. Ahmed broke things down in such an easy-to-understand way and made every part of the session exciting - even the wipeouts! There's something really special about learning to surf together as a family in a setting as stunning as Taghazout Bay. Watching Reg light up with every small success made it a holiday to remember.

Their packages range from half day tasters to 10 day courses, all led by certified instructors with top tier equipment. We caught our first waves within 30 minutes — a testament to how brilliant the instructors are.

Camel Rides & Coastal Views

On our first morning, the hotel arranged a magical camel ride with @camel_ride_imourane.

Our tour guides took us along peaceful roads overlooking the bay and golden beaches before making our way down to the shoreline for a walk in the sea — all on camelback!

Reggie was so brave riding solo (it’s surprisingly high up for a 7 year old!) and our camels, Cous Cous and Ali Baba, were gentle and calm, perfect for families.

The tour ended at a small cluster of local shops where we picked up a few souvenirs, and I discovered a charming restaurant called Chez Aicha that I’d love to try on our next visit.

If you’re visiting Tamraght, this tour is a must — great for kids, stunning views, and a real taste of Moroccan adventure!

Exploring Agadir: Goats, Crocs & Souks

One of our days in Morocco was spent adventuring in nearby Agadir, starting with a stop at the famous goats in the trees. These nimble climbers perch high in the branches of Argan trees, munching on fruit and offering an amazing photo opportunity, Reggie was very amused by it all!

This excursion is only about 20 minutes but so worth it, we paired it with Crocoparc which was just 10 minutes up the road.

If you’re visiting Agadir with kids (or you’re just a big kid yourself!) Crocoparc is an absolute must!

We loved every second, from watching the crocodiles being fed and spotting the iguanas and other reptiles up close to Reggie getting a snake tattoo and letting off some steam in the play area. The tropical gardens and scenic views were stunning too — a highlight for me!

We spent about 2 hours there which felt just right, enough time for a full wander, watching the crocs feed, time in the play area, and a quick browse in the gift shop. But if you’re after a slower pace, 3 hours would be ideal — especially if you want to grab lunch at their café.

Ticket prices were really affordable, although ours were included in a combo tour (which also included the goats in trees and transfers) so I couldn’t tell you exactly how much we paid.

Top Tip: Get there for opening time (10am) — it gets noticeably busier after 11am, especially on weekends.

A Perfect Ending

On our last day, we wandered around the souks of Agadir, soaking up the scents of spices, trying local treats, and bringing home a few Moroccan treasures. I would definitely recommend going with a tour guide as its a complete maze and I can imagine you'd get easily lost, our guide was also very helpful with translating and getting the best deals. I came away with some magnets, coasters, perfume, jewellery and some incredible spices which are so rich in smell and flavour, and a bargain to buy!

5 days simply wasn’t enough. So I have booked to go back next month, we’re going back for more surfing, more sunshine, and more unforgettable memories.

If you’re looking for a mix of luxury, adventure, and incredible family friendly vibes — this is the place.

Thank you, @radissonblutaghazoutbay, for the trip of a lifetime.

Until next time, Morocco!

Because there can never be too many photos, heres a few more...

The delicious and abundance of food options at the Radisson Blu Hotel:

MY INSIDER TIPS:

We packed insect repellant - We never used it!

Clothing wasn't an issue, wear whatever you like at the hotels and in Taghazout, I wore a v-neck dress above my knees whilst in the Agadir Souk, however in Agadir its best to be slightly more conversative than Taghazout. If you visit a mosque then dress respectfully and cover up. We wore anything we liked on the camel ride. I would recommend taking a couple of pairs of linen shorts, and a long sleeve cover up top, also a pair of slide on shoes and a pair of trainers for the more adventorous days. I will be doing a separate blog post on what we packed for Agadir.

If something isn't priced at the Souk, you can expect to have to haggle. Offer half of what they suggest and work from there. Priced items are slightly different but you can still offer a lower price.

In the hotel we had no problem with food, I was worried about Reggie eating ice cream around the pool but there was nothing to worry about! Whilst out and about I would be wary where you eat ice cream but most restaraunts and hotels will be fine. Stick to bottled water wherever you are, hotels or rural - just to be safe, no one wants to ruin the holiday...

Cash is king - I took £160 worth of MAD with me from England, just for Taxi's, tipping and at the Souk. The Radisson Blu in Taghazout had its own ATM in the reception which was amazing!!

The internet at the hotel seemed to get slow around 8:30-9pm, I dont know whether this was because all the other guests started logging on then, but this might be something to bear in mind if you're working whilst away. They had an amazing workspace overlooking the beach!

I considered hiring a car - I am SO glad I didn't - Driving in Morocco is not for the faint-hearted!

If you're staying at the Radisson Blu in Taghazout then I definitely recommend utilising the concierge for booking activities.
